I would go to Admin > Ticket Fields
Scroll to Status and then change the ‘Behavior for Customers’ and untick ‘Can Edit’

Thanks for the reply. The configuration is already as reported but the "CLOSE" button is visible and working on the customer page and customers close their tickets before I can check them
