Ability to block unregister users

I would personally like to be able to block tickets from being created by unknown sources.  A simple deny tickets from being created from unknown or non-registered users would be great.

Reason:  We get spam from many sources and not all of this gets picked up by the spam filter, over 20-40 tickets gets created over a weekend that we need to sort through and discard.  We really just want customers that have registered to be able to create tickets.

I agree, this feature is a must have. We would like to see a way of manually approving the users that register for access to the tickets. Maybe this can be easily implemented as "require user to be associated with a company to access tickets".

I agree, This is a security risk for my company to allow anyone to signup on our portal

I agree with this, but with a slightly different driver.

We have an SLA with our customers where only 2 users from each customer can log tickets (our customers provide their own Level 1/2 support). If a non-authorized user tries to send an email to our support email address, it should:

  1. not create a ticket
  2. send an email back to the sender with some configurable text (in our case, it would say something like, "Please note that a ticket has not been opened for you. Contact your internal support staff for more information on next steps."

Hi Jami,

I think you're thinking of the "users can submit a ticket without logging in".

We have this turned off, and people without a user account will still be given a new account when they email our support email address. Not what we want, in our context.

thanks for the thought, anyways. :)

Hey James

I just got through dealing with this for our planned Implementation of Freshdesk. By using a two step process of disabling "users can submit a ticket without logging in" and creating a Dispatch'r rule to reject emails outside our domain, we locked it down to internal customers only.

I'm not sure if this would handle your context, since you might have authorized customers from outside your domain, but you may be able to tweak it to fit your specific needs.

I attached a screenshot of my rule so you can get an idea of how to pull it off.

Thanks Ken; great idea.

As you suspected, this doesn't work for us, since our customers are from a variety of domains; this scales to be impractical pretty quickly.

Additionally, we want to allow User1@domain1.com to log a ticket because she's registered, but block User2@domain1.com because he's not registered -- so we'd have to build a condition on the Dispatcher rule for each new user. Yuck. :)

You can turn off the email validation notification...

Turning off the email validation notification only does half of the job. The unregistered user will not be able to log in, but the ticket is created anyways and the unregistered user also gets the notification that a new ticket has been created.

Please add the option to only accept emails from registered users!

I also would like this option.

Same problem here

Has anyone figured out how to:

1. Only allow ticket *creation* from registered users (regardless of channel)

2. Only allow new users from already pre-defined/pre-associated domains

?

We need this too. I just sent a support request and was told that Freshdesk still doesn't support this functionality. I am also surprised that nobody from Freshdesk has responded to this thread.

Does anyone have a workaround or has anyone found another support product that meets this requirement?

thanks!

Unfortunately the folks @ freshdesk do not seem interested and do not respond.

Up for this feature request !

Even with Dispatch'r rules, is not very easy to block unregistered users.

Hello Folks,

You can make use of the Helpdesk Restriction feature available on the Estate and Forest plans to lock down the helpdesk to a specific set of domains/companies. You can couple this with the option under Admin -> Portal -> Settings section wherein you can specify that only logged in users can create tickets on the portal. This method is foolproof in case if the user tries to create tickets by logging into the customer portal.

For tickets created through email, although it is not possible to restrict the ticket creation ability to only registered users, this method will provide better control on the users who are permitted to create tickets .

Cheers!
