Ability to follow solution/forum categories

I know customers can follow individual topics in solutions.
However I would love to have my customers be able to follow solution categories and forums.

eg. a category could be release notes. Whenever we would post new release notes customers can opt in to automatically receive an email about this.

Another use would be agents following a bugs section in the forum, so a case can be logged when a new bug comes through the forum.

We simply need the ability to be notified when a new topic is posted in our forums.  I'm guessing allowing individuals to follow a topic would cover this so I've voted for it.  We really need this as many of our new forum posts seem ignored because we never knew they were there without searching for them.

We've been ignoring forum posts because we didn't know customers had created them - bad bad bad. It would hugely helpful to get notified whenever someone posts a new topic.

Well now you can - from admin > forums you can click to 'follow' the forum.  I'm not sure yet if it emails you for updates but I get an email for new posts

Yes, Agent can follow a Category. But it is not available at customer level as Erik Withoud said.

Agreed: Agents yes | Customers yes please.

I see that Anna doesn't realise that we, as 'customers' on this forum, cannot follow the forum that she has recommended we follow.  Sorry Anna: I'd love to know when new updates are released but can't get notified.

Ian,

I completely agree how basic and important it was to provide the option for the customers to follow a Forum, rather than just the topic.

Sorry for not having this option up until now. So yes, I would like to tell you that we have pushed out the option to follow the forum as a customer.

We are sticking to "Announcements" forum type for now, because this is where new updates are posted and people would like to stay tuned.

And, please follow the forum - What's New In Freshdesk and stay updated with our weekly releases.

Hope this is good news for you all, guys! Share your thoughts and feedback.

Mmm, is there any specific reason why to limit this functionality to Announcements only? Getting notifications from our current forums was a frequently requested feature. Any chance we'll see this enabled for other forum types?

Thanks

Josef

Hi Anna,

Same question as Josef...

Why make the call to limit the ability to follow a forum to Announcements? Your rationale make sense for your business. It does not for ours.

We want to ensure that our Forums are dynamic communities. This was the first question we got from our users. On the first day.

Please make this a "toggle" feature for all forum types.

Thanks!

Mark

I understand why impose the limit - each notification subscription puts more strain on the back-end mailserver. We've had our share of this problem so I can see the logic. But I also know that there are distributed mail services that can help overcome this problem. That's the way we solved it anyway.

So, I will be looking forward to seeing this enabled for all forum types. I have managed to find a workaround for our internal employees, not all of whom are agents, but it would be nicer if this was a feature of the product.

I would like to second this issue. We are very keen for customers to be able to follow our Discussion (a questions type) forum.

Just adding my vote for the ability to follow forums in order to receive email notifications about them.

I am a Product Manager and would like to be notified as new topics are posted about my product, so I can respond as necessary.

Without this feature, our customers are more likely to have a delayed response because I am less likely to know about new activity.

I would say most, if not all, competing solutions have this capability.

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

We already have the option for the agents to follow all types of forum. It's simple. After you login into your account, you just need to choose the forum you would like to follow and you will find the favorite/follow icon next to the forum title. Clicking on the follow option will enable you to receive forum post notification :)

Guys,

Between we are working on enabling the 'Follow' option for other forum types too :) and we are expecting to roll it out in the second week of November.

We will keep you posted once its available. Thank you all for your valuable feedback.

Regards,

Sajesh

Thanks for the update Sajesh, we are looking to migrate existing forums from a legacy system to Freshdesk, but we will not be able to do this without customers being able to follow all Forum types and receive email notifications. Looking forward to the roll out!

Where can users do this?  Or do we have to turn it on somewhere in the settings?

In my community, there is no ability for users (non-agents) to subscribe to forum categories.

Thanks,

Kevin

For us, when users log in, they have to open the specific forum and click the "Follow" button.

Kevin,

When your users login into your community and click on any specific forums, they will find the follow button on the right next to the forum title as shown below:

Kindly check the same and let us know.

Thanks,

Sajesh

Thanks Sajesh. Somehow, this is hidden for our users at the forum level (but does appear at the topic level).

We will submit a ticket to have you assist us in un-hiding this feature from our code. (Please don't create a ticket from this post, as we have a different email we use to track out FreshDesk tickets).

Thanks,

Kevin

Is there a way to bring the follow button forward a screen so that it displays on the main discussions page next to each forum?  This will help our users see which forums they are following or not following without having to go into each forum.

Thanks!
