We have to support two official national languages and Freshdesk's Customer Portal is doing a great jog at that, except may be in some small areas. However, we have enabled Freshchat (nice feature) and to our dismay, it does not support multi-languages... We are surprised because it is a high visibility application and some users will no doubt complain about this.

Please consider making this cool feature multi-language like the rest of the Customer Portal.

Thanks!

Michel

Michel - thanks for bringing this up. I understand having chat widget in multiple languages is probably imperative for many businesses. Though we don't have a direct way of doing this right now, you can set up another product in Freshdesk, which allows you to have a chat widget for each product you have configured. You can then set the default messages of the widgets in each language you want.

We are working on some other features in chat right now, so will not be able to take up dynamic languages for chat currently, but do let me know if this work around helps your team.

Hello Smrithi,

Thank  you for your reply. I am not sure I understand your workaround, if we were to add a different product for each of the languages we support, this means a different email address for each, different Customer Portal and knowledge base to maintain for each product... Is there a way we could code this ourselves? In our part of the world, people are very sensitive about language issues...

Thanks!

Michel - If you do not want customer portals for your other languages, you can turn them off in your settings (it will be off by default). You will have to put in an email address, but thats about it, and and additional chat widgets will be added for you.

Hello Smrithi,

If I do not turn on the other products' portals, will these customers still have access to our main portal? Anyhow, thanks for the workaround, I will take a look at it...

Yes, your customers will still be able to see your main portal even with the product portals turned off.

NB: I just spoke to FD Support. What they told me is "If you are looking to have both the chat widgets on the same freshdesk portal, then I'm afraid that this wouldn't work. This workaround is helpful if you paste the chat widget on your website."

Is it already possible to use a multilingual chat without activating multiproducts? This should the default option if we are using multilingual support without need to create 1 product per language...

I can see that the multilingual chat has been requested 2 years ago, and this still hasn't been implemented yet?

I really cannot understand how FD can have a product managed in a single language! It is really important nowadays to have multilanguage features!

I do hope you take into account the rest of the world and improve language management.

Offering a new product (Freshchat) at a hefty price, per user per month, is hardly a solution to the request of adding multilingual support to the built-in live chat to Freshdesk. Freshdesk claims that they offer a multilingual helpdesk solution but Forums, and live Chat are still not multilingual. Pricing for Freshchat is not clear for current Freshdesk users, can one be on the Freshdesk Estate plan use the Freshchat Sprout free (10 active users) plan and turn off Freshdesk's live chat? Will the Sprout version still allow to convert to a ticket if no answer or if the agent chooses to go that route? The free version does not support business hours and we support three business hours. The paying versions of Freshchat seem to be interesting products, but not for a Support Helpdesk environment that only uses chat sporadically as a nice additional access for its customers. To Freshdesk users, this is a let down.

Michel,

Freshchat is the new messaging channel in Freshdesk and has replaced Live chat as a powerful alternative. The new accounts in Freshdesk will have Freshchat enabled by default. As you had mentioned, there are quite a few feature additions to Freshchat and the whole interface now looks more modern.

I should have been pro-active enough to communicate the Livechat to Freshchat transition for existing users. Sorry that I missed the mark here.

We have facilitated the migration from Live chat to Freshchat for our existing Freshdesk users at no additional cost. Drop us a note here if you'd love to explore more.

Cheers!

Sorry then, I did not realize Freshchat was replacing live chat at no cost for existing users (how do we  proceed?) and and that new Freshdesk account will benefit from it by default. I take back my comment, this is an excellent solution.
