When trying to merge two contacts, if both records have a mobile phone, an error is presented and the merge cannot continue. The same thing occurs for other cases where both contacts have values provided.
The only solution currently is to edit one of the records to remove the specific value, and then try the merge again. THis is very unwieldy, as it requires you to leave the merge process, edit a contact, then go back and try the merge again, involving a lot of clicking and navigating.
Instead of an error, this should be a warning, with the option to override it and continue the merge anyway.
I understand the reason for this is to prevent loss of information, but if merging is the goal, the information will have to be removed anyway in order to proceed.
IDEAL APPROACH:
WARNING: Only one mobile phone, work phone,
twitter, etc is allowed for each contact. To merge these records you
must select which of the following values to keep. All other values will
be deleted and unrecoverable. Please check the values which will be kept. All others will be discarded.
- Mobile Phone: [ ] 800-555-1234 [ ]800-555-6789
- Twitter Account: [ ] @BeezKneez [ ] @MyNameIsBob
- Work Phone : [ ] 877-555-8778 [ ] 866-555-4567
SIMPLER APPROACH:
WARNING: If you proceed with this merge, the mobile phone, work phone, twitter, facebook, etc for the primary contact will be kept, and those values for the additional contacts will be deleted and unrecoverable.
