I have raised this as a potential feature request but i would like to share. Currently the normal behaviour of a discovery agent is to take the hostname as the asset display name and if the hostname is not present then the computer name is taken into account.
The Asset properties have two fields both Display name or name and hostname. I have suggested the agent maps computer name on a device to display name/name and host name to the hostname field. This should make common sense to map the related fields from devices.
