We would like to disallow certain topics from companies that have not paid their contract maintenance for that product. It would be advantagous if we could block areas from certain companies. It would also be advantagous if we could block companies from the portal until their maintenance contract comes through. Currently we have to remove their contacts and sometimes the contacts do not all get reinstated. This tends to be a problem. It would be much more simple if we could block access for all users in a company.

We do have a feature that might be used for this Helpdesk Restrictions to block a company (all requests from a certain domain) from the portal until their maintenance contract comes through.
Its under Admin->General Settings->Helpdesk in the product. Here's a solution article that will help you.

This does not work for us because we have companies that do not buy maintenance for the entire company. Large companies have divisions and all have the same domain but are XYZ Inc. (CA), XYZ Inc (NY), XYZ Inc (UK) and they purchase maintenance based on each local or division but use the same domain. We have each of these divisions set as their own companies. If I domain blocked all of the company will then be blocked. If I could set a blocked indicator on the company I have setup and all of the users under that 'company' tree would be blocked it would work.
