Captcha while posting a new topic on forums

Hi,


We have installed freshdesk on our help site and we are getting a lot spam forum posting from some movers and packers. I wondered if I can enable any captcha for this but I couldn't find any. So, I talked to one of your representative regarding this yesterday and he said that this feature is not yet available. 


The only solution is to delete the user and post. But, it does not solve the issue as they create new accounts and do the posting. 


I don't to waste my time daily in keeping track of this and deleting those spam post. 


It will be great if you guys can release this feature ASAP.

A captcha would definitely help. I am having the same problem on my forums with "movers and packers" and as you have mentioned clearing and checking for spam on our forums shouldn´t be a daily task. I hope that the Freshdesk team can come up with a solution asap.

Please try to login as a customer and try creating a new forum post. You should be able to see the captcha option here.

Excellent. What about adding a captcha for sending a ticket? Would that be a good idea too?

We have this option for tickets created without Login


under Admin ->Customer Portal -> select the option (Make captcha compulsory while submitting ticket without logging in) and save.

Hi Chakravarthy, sorry to be a pain but we are still receiving a lot of SPAM (movers and packers) on our Forums, even with the Captcha implemented by you. Any idea why? Man, this is getting too big.

Loving that you've added a feature when your users have posed a problem.


Our feeling is that a captcha, when the user has already signed in, is going to put people off posting: something we REALLY want them to do!


PLEASE make it so that we can turn this feature off if we need/want to and not 'throw the baby out with the bathwater' on this one :)

This sure is a very valid feedback and we indeed have this included on the roadmap.


We're currently focussing on improving the SPAM filtering and once we have stabilised that, we will be making the captcha optional.

Another vote for making the captcha option for logged in users. It definitely reduces the usefulness of the forums - can't read half the captcha things myself, they're a pain.

Can we get an update? I'd really like to disable the Captcha for our forums. 

We require forum users to be logged in, and we use simple sign-on, so the only people who can post are our end-users (employees) with access we've already granted to them. Thus it doesn't make sense to force them to fill out the captcha.

Yes - I can't agree more with Josh.  This is an important issue for us as well - would really like to be able to disable captcha.

Totally understand how it would make things a lot more easier if you can have the Captcha optionla. 


But, we are currently working on platform migration and once we are done, we would definitely try and take it up. Unfortunately, there is not concrete ETA as of now.

We are glad to inform you that we have rolled out the option to enable/disable the CAPTCHA for new forum topic creation for your end users. You can find the option by following the below steps:


  • Go to Admin -> Customer Portal 
  • In 'User Permissions for portal' under 'Who can view forums', select either 'Logged in users' or 'Everyone' based on your preference 
  • By default the checkbox 'Logged in users should enter CAPTCHA to create topic' will be enabled, disable the option if you want to remove the CAPTCHA option for your users 
  • And Save the settings!
