In the activities section of a ticket, when you are looking at the history, sometimes, the time is summarized - what I mean by this is that instead of telling you an exact time something happened, it tells you things like “2 hours ago” or “a day ago”.

While I’ve always felt like this was a nice touch to quickly summarize time, I recently had to fill out a Post Incident Report on a major incident. On our PIRs, I want the exact timeline that things occurred and I that’s when I wished it wasn’t summarized or there was a way to get the exact timing.

Instead of relying on the Activities tab to see when things happened, I had to look at individual posts and hunt down each time via emails that came out when the post was created. Since, I’m already in FreshService filling out the Post Incident Report, I don’t want to rely on the emails to tell me the time something happened - there’s a possibility that the email gets delayed throwing off the timeline. Instead, I want to use the source of truth (FreshService) to fill out the timeline reliably.

My recommendation is that you could still summarize the time, I do like that feature, but when I need an exact date/time, I’d like that to also be available so I could use it in a PIR following a Major Incident.

As a user of your case management software, I have found it to be an invaluable tool for our daily operations. However, I would like to suggest a feature enhancement that could significantly improve our troubleshooting and activity tracking processes.

Currently, the activity logs in the software summarize events by the hour. While this provides a general overview, it lacks the precision needed for effective troubleshooting and detailed monitoring. I would like to request the implementation of precise time stamps for each logged activity.

Here are the reasons why precise time stamps are crucial:

  1. Detailed Troubleshooting: When issues arise, it is imperative to pinpoint the exact moment an event occurred. Precise time stamps allow us to correlate user actions, system events, and external factors accurately. This granularity is essential for diagnosing problems, understanding their root causes, and implementing timely solutions.

  2. Accurate Auditing and Compliance: Many industries, including ours, are subject to strict regulatory requirements that mandate detailed records of all activities. Precise time stamps ensure we maintain compliance by providing a clear and accurate log of events, which is necessary during audits and inspections.

  3. Enhanced Security: In the event of a security incident, having exact time stamps is critical. It enables us to track unauthorized access, identify suspicious activities, and respond promptly to potential threats. Summarized logs by the hour could obscure vital details, delaying our response time.

  4. Improved Accountability: Precise logging of activities promotes accountability among users. It ensures that all actions are recorded accurately, which can deter inappropriate behavior and support investigations if discrepancies arise.

  5. Better Performance Analysis: Understanding the precise sequence and timing of activities can help us optimize our workflows. By analyzing detailed logs, we can identify bottlenecks, streamline processes, and improve overall efficiency.

We believe that incorporating precise time stamps into the activity logs would greatly enhance the functionality of the software, providing us with the tools needed for thorough analysis and effective management.

Thank you for considering this enhancement. We appreciate your commitment to continually improving your software and look forward to the potential implementation of this feature.
