Importing to company/contact fields

The import function for Contacts is incomplete, in that you can't import into custom fields.


The import function for Companies is non-existent and equally important.


Importing Contacts seems to cause existing Companies to disappear (at least sometimes). This is a real problem when combined with the fact that you can't (re) import the Companies...


You should also add a staging capability so that import can be validated before committing - it's potentially highly destructive (e.g. user error on the import can destroy your contact base)

Found another problem (created another free FreshDesk account to test all this..)


Importing Contacts will create companies, but it doesn't create any of the additional fields you might want, such as the Domain (so that new contacts are associated with the company automatically).  The proper solution is of course to support the import of Companies as well as Contacts.

I appreciate you in taking the efforts to test this out. 


We agree that the import functionality is fairly limited as of now. But, we will definitely take this feedback and see if we can work on it in future.

Is there a workaround for this? I have over 1,000 customers and I need to append their Unique Reference Number to all of them.

The only workaround I found was writing/stealing some python code and using the API.
