Lookup Fields as custom fields

When adding custom fields to software, contracts, or other systems, it can be beneficial to include lookup fields for improved data accuracy and efficiency. For example, you can create a lookup field for "Departments" where users can select the appropriate department from a predefined list. This ensures consistency and facilitates data organization.

Another useful lookup field is "Business Owner (as a Requester lookup)" which allows users to select the business owner or requester associated with a particular task or request. This helps in tracking and assigning responsibilities accurately.

I would like to use the pre-existing department table rather than having to manage a department list just for software and then again for services, etc.

You can use custom objects but then you need to maintain them. 

Daniel, that is a nifty idea, but I want to see these values on the Software page and in the analytics report.  Is there a way to see it there with a custom object?  I haven't been able to figure that out.  It would be nice if a custom object could be treated as a related table that uses the same key as a core table and then display the custom objects in the native locations.
