Sure, it's possible. The path of trial and error is riddled with existential and rectal hardship.

Authentication is the first step that might slow down right away. The API documentation: Authentication explains, that the API uses Basic Authentication. Now, if you're doing it through PBI's Get Data -> Web and are courageous enough to try to connect to the API without any credentials, it will explicitly ask for creds after pressing OK and then you're ready to go. Or, you could slap the credentials/API-key on the HTTP header, but I have no experience of that.

If your Fresh domain has a lot of tickets or other records, you'll find out soon that the API paginates the responses. Sure, with Power BI's M-language you can iterate the pages with multiple requests, but by the time you've learned to do so, you begin to question the choices you've made in terms of your career path, and purpose of life in general.

What if one needs to dynamically generate multiple API requests and define their parameters, based on the response of one request? Sure, it's possible. By the time you've learned to do it with M, you've probably mastered that scripting language and again you're wondering if your career path was really the correct one for you. Or if you approach the goblin-like developers in your office with this issue, they'll hiss violently at M and begin implementing their own RESTful web server with the language they choose, position it between PBI and Fresh's API, and tell you to poll that instead.

API is aimed for developers, while Power BI is for anyone who wants to create reports or dashboards, without having to depend on any IT staff or DB administrator.

But to be honest, I'm not sure which would be better: that you guys provide an article about using the API with PBI, or to implement the integration. Because it's difficult to implement GUIs, user friendly dialogs or wizards for all the possible use cases, especially when things get more advanced. Perhaps an integration to perform all the small and simple functions, and courage the community to use the API for more advanced stuff and to write their own Wiki about it?

I totally agree with Mark

I haven't used BI myself, but I talked to our business analysts (who basically live in the thing) and they told me I would be a fool not to support this idea. +1 for BI.

Another +1. We use BI for an existing dashboard and pull Sendgrid and Azure financial data into it. It would be great to be able to add in data from Freshservice.

We have recently developed a Power BI solution for FreshDesk that provides:

  • Ready to use dashboards and reports for common scenarios
  • An easy to use Power BI data model so power users can create additional dashboards and reports
  • Allows for scheduled data refresh via standard Power BI functionality

@Viminya Doss, can you please let me know the best way to contact you to discuss possibly working together to offer this to other FreshDesk customers?

hi what is the latest on this? do we have live integration options for power bi?

I have tried to use the export of the existing data but it just wont work without really manipulating the data.

Can't upvote this enough.  I'm VERY interested in this being an actual thing instead of "Develop a Web Service that pulls data from the API".  That's hard.  But a data service that just provides raw data (authenticated, even!) with my Azure AD (O365) credentials would pretty much make me a stay-at-FreshService customer.

Cheers,

Aaron

Power BI integration is an absolute must for me.

Seems they're more interested in selling another companies product than bettering their own..  I don't even need a built in connector, I just need a scheduled export of ALL the data(I figured this was a basic part of any SaaS solution).

Why we need Power BI:
We're expected to use built in reporting but it's worthless.  For almost two years I waited for "custom reports" while being told it would be "released next month".  But custom reporting isn't custom if you don't let us report on certain column or data.  Would you like to report on average resolution time?  Sorry that isn't a field in the "custom reporting" drop down list...  How about Average FR time?  Nope.  Would you like to report on a time period greater than 90 days?  Not an option.  "Custom reporting" just gives us the ability to waste our own time making reports that already existed as built-in defaults...

scheduled export and power bi connectors are somethings we will ship very soon. I will also loop in a few development partners who can build custom power bi reports. Please reach out to rajiv@freshdesk.com if you need any support.

Do you have a timeline for that functionality?

Any further forward with this ? We are finding the in built reports to be very limited in so far as giving us the information we really want to see.

@Rajiv - is this powerBI integration going to be going GA Soon?

@Rajiv, an update would be greatly appreciated. It seems odd that a company providing tools to help service providers respond to customer requests in a timely fashion would be so tardy in responding to their customers.

It's been three months since this became 'very soon' - that's an eternity of time for there to be no information at all. FreshService seems to take several months for every new feature or integration, while competitors like Zen Desk implement equivalent functionality on a regular basis. There's got to be a change or no matter how compelling the core product you'll start losing customers.

No man service desk product is an island.

Is there any updates on this? We looking on Zendesk no, as it has all features for quite long time now and quickly adding more. Zendsk already have out of the box integration with MS Teams as product released. Can add tabs with tickets, or connector though channel and quickly share with team, collaborate.

Flow has integration to automate tickets actions for free, but for some reason I see can add Freshservice but as premium feature.

Power BI has native connector long time ago.

How come they able to add those features so quickly and its not possible by Fresh service?

We would be interested in this feature also so if an update on progress or estimated time to deliver could be given, that would be great.

Hi Everybody - I'm working with a PowerBI developer for a Freshservice connector. I will update you all once it is demoable.

Hi Viminya

Any update on this feature? We have been waiting for this connector for almost a year and it is key for us to have soon.

Please, let us know when it is ready to be tested.

Thanks!!

Kind regards,

Any word on that PowerBI connector?
