When scanning the barcode in the mobile app it searches only in the asset tag. Our CMDB is filled with deviced by our SCCM and contains serial numbers.. in the serial number field.
When scanning an item it should not only search the asset tag field but it should include the serial number. Currently it's kinda useless for us... or we would have to manually copy 1000 serial numbers to asset tag.
I too encountered the same issue with the mobile app. I scanned the bar code on a computer which is in the Assets list, but it wanted to create a new record because it only searched the Asset Tag field.
The app should search the computer name, serial number, and asset tag fields.
Yep, I've had to enter the serial number into the Asset tag field so that i can search using the app, then copy it into the end of the device name so the customer can find the correct device when logging an incident via the portal as well as having it in the serial number field. So the serial is in three different locations just to get basic functionality that any MSP would require.
This would also be useful to us since we treat hard drives as consumables in out lab, it would be nice to be able to scan the Part or Model number to find the asset so we can increase/decrease the quantity as we use the drives
