I’d like to make a compl--ai nt about the way “moderation” works here.

It appears as though there is a list of “k**il l” words e.g. u-- g--ly, h..a- te, etc and when a comment contains one of these words, the comment is allowed to be submitted but then never gets reviewed and AFAIK never gets published.

I’d like to propose a different idea from instead of simply vanishing the comment never to be seen again and wasting all kinds of user time which could radically diminish people’s likelihood of continuing to use the platform.

If a k**i ll word is detected, highlight it and ask user to change it and/or remove it.

What do you think?

I would agree… or hide the comment and give the warning, like Twitter does

I also agree with this approach.

Hello @BrynCYDEF - thank you for your suggestion but please could you elaborate a little more? I’m a little unclear on which comments have been trashed? The system automatically detects certain words as spam and may not display the comment.

However, the comments we mark as spam are which are linked to are incorrect websites, promotional content, etc.

I’ll reach out via DM to understand in detail. Thank you.

@JTAVOLARO That’s a good suggestion. We can check with our platform provider if this is possible.

Hi @alyssia.correa -- ty for the follow up!  I see you have sent me a DM so I will respond there but for anyone following this thread I’ll add my details here as well.

My experience (at least 10+ times) has fallen into 2 types

(a) If I responding to an existing thread and I use a k - ill word then the comment is allowed to be submitted - but then an error appears and says that the comment has gone for moderation.  AFAIK 100% of my “moderated” comments have NEVER reappeared and the simple fact is I do not use abusive language or other usual reasons for a comment to be suppressed.

(b) If I am trying to create a new thread and use a k.-.ill word then the comment throws an error “something has gone wrong” but does not tell me what word is causing the issue so I have to start over and over and over until I throw an empty TEST thread in there just to confirm that the platform hasn’t gone down.

VERY unsatisfying experience -- especially troubling since none of us are paid to share our expertise and our [exceedingly limited] time with other platform users.  We all do it bc we want to be helpful and be helped in return.

Thanks for listening!

PS even now, I copied my text to notepad bc I assume there will be an issue and I don’t want to lose all this typing - no wonder I’ve been around less and less on the site.
