I am quite surprised that this is 6 years old issue. I came here to check how to remove watcher when I accidentally added wrong person (same name, different lastname) as a watcher, who has nothing to do with the issue.

This should not be an issue, and really not one that has been going around 6 years. 

If nothing else, add additional user permission to edit them.

@RaunoRantanen The same happened with me. However, I was lucky that I was using an Admin Account.

Account admins can try this workaround to remove an agent from the role of a watcher by assuming the identity of the agent from Admin → Agent → clicking on the agent’s name. 

As the agent, you can go the respective ticket and remove yourself as the watcher.

In your case, if you are not an Account Admin, you might want to contact your Admin to remove the watchers by following the above steps for now.
