Restrict Forum Access to a subgroup of customers

It would be helpful if we could put customers into groups and then create forums that only these groups can access.
I'm thinking about a Beta Users Forum for example where only selected Beta Users have access.

Maybe that's already possible, if so, I must have missed it.

This is the feature I'm looking for and this is possible with other (similar) help desk products. Some customers (paid) will have access to private forums while others have access to knowledge base and announcements.

Hello Roman & Sasha,

Thank you for writing to our Forums and coming up with such brilliant ideas.

I have passed this request to our Product Management and we will surely see what can be done regarding this. We are also in the plans of revamping our Forums and will try to address this feature as well.

But, as of now what you can do is, make the Forums visible to select few customers. While creating a forum, change its visibility to Select Companies and key in the specific customers to whom you wish to make the forum available. I have attached a screenshot for reference.

This might not be a great alternative, but might serve the purpose until we roll out the Group based visibility.

Please keep your ideas and suggestions coming.

Thanks,

Annapoorna

I really need a feature like this too.  Is there any news on if and when this feature will be incorporated?

This is a very important feature for us. We use Beta-product forums currently and only a limited group of customers have access to these. Unfortunately, limiting by Company name is a no-go for us as we cannot use the Company feature in Freshdesk. For us, Company name is not a unique identifier and, moreover, one customer can be a member of multiple companies.

My company is asking for this functionality as well. Our clients have administrators and regular users, and we would prefer that the regular users not see the knowledge base solutions that are meant for administrators. We would actually like this functionality for the forums as well.

Hi,

You can use a contact custom property to group the users - I can think of a custom checkbox named "Forum access?" and if this is set to TRUE, the forums will be accessible.

In case if you're on the Estate plan , using portal customisation, we can inject some scripts on the portal to hide the forums for these users with custom property value set to TRUE.

Please reach out to support@freshdesk.com if you'd like to implement this on your account.

Cheers!
