SSL with own domain

The possibility to use the own domain with SSL/https would be useful.
At the moment encryption is only available through the subdomain of Freshdesk.

This is pretty bad at the moment. When you enable SSL it tells you:

Enable SSL

SSL allows you to encrypt data that is transfered to and from freshdesk portals

Since custom helpdesk URL is configured for your account you will be redirected to newstex.freshdesk.com to avoid SSL errors

 However, it doesn't properly re-direct you in the links in the ticket URLs. This is really critical and is causing our customers to complain.

What's the expected time frame for doing this? We'd like to have SSL on our own domain ASAP.

The problem is: At the moment Freshdesk uses a wildcard certificate for all subdomains.
By using the own domain, a new certificate is needed.
If you bought your own one and uploaded it to Freshdesk, they could use it instead of the wildcard cert -> problem solved

Hi Vijay,

Can you tell if SSL over our own domain is already supported or else when it does?
Or can we use the suggested answer of Matthias.fax?

Hey Vijay,

Whats the status of SSL for custom domain.I hope this feature would be out soon.I guess there would be extra charges to get that too.Hope to see some fresh features in the year 2013.

Almost complete with the feature. We hope to get the SSL with Custom Domain out by next month or early Feb

Just ensuring that all URLs/Vanity URLs or internal Apps also take up the Cert.

Any update on this feature?  At least you could update the email templates that you use to also substitute the x.freshdesk.com URL on links when SSL is turned on.  Right now it does not do that in many places and those URLs issue SSL errors to our end-users.

I will beta test.  My customers are confused by the SSL error and I really don't like the idea of unencrypted communication.

Correct me if i'm wrong but with out this I can't do SSO with freshdesk because the session cookie needs to be for mydomain.com and you wouldn't want your session token transferred from your SSO provider in plaintext.

wiki.mydomain.com

downloads.mydomain.com


Kind of thing.

Hey Guys


Thanks for your patience, I know its been a long time since we updated this thread.


We're now supporting SSL over Custom domain and info can be obtained here

We've added this feature as a default option in Estate plan and for other plans, we are working on an add-on based option, which will be out soon.

As of now, Estate plan users can make use of this feature, free of cost and will be supporting the main portal URL, but if you wish to add another Portal URL,i.e. for the Multiple Products/Portal section, you will have to pay additionally for the certificate.

It's really good to hear that this will available as an add-on. We aren't on the Estate plan, but will be relying heavily on the Multiple Products feature for our upcoming roll-out, and could see that not having SSL for the portals might become a point of concern.

Hi,


We are on the Garden Plan and were hoping too to have our client portals using SSL. At present, the Security option seems to suggest that albeit not the case, please see below:

But in actuality, that is not the case. Will I be correct to assume that this only applies to the main portal(ourcompanyname.freshdesk.com)?

If that is the case, are there any plans to allow this functionality to extend to client portals withing the Garden Plan in the future, or am I missing something?

Hello Folks,


Updating this thread with the latest information about the SSL on custom domain. The ability to support the helpdesk on a custom domain is available from the Blossom plan and upwards . The SSL certs have to be procured from us for any portal running on custom domain addresses and we don't have an option to upload a third party wild card certificate. 


The cost of the SSL certificate is $180 per portal per year across the plans. In case if you're on the Estate plan, you can avail one free of cost SSL certificate for a year .
