Mandatory dropdown fields should have the option to become 'blank' (no option selected by default) so that the user is forced to choose an option. Otherwise, even if the field is mandatory, it's common that people simply do not click anything and just send the requeste without even checking the options available.

Hi Mario

We actually found that customers used an option NONE in the list and users were selecting that field. We understand your requirements and we will improve this.

Well, I am against an option that's called "NONE". The point is that you have a blank field and if it is mandatory, it should prevent the customer of hitting Submit, warning him of the action he must take first. So, he wouldn't never select the "none" state if the field is mandatory.

In my experience I find that crucial because if you have three departments:

- General information

- Technical issues

- Sales

And if the person has a question about an order, instead of selecting Sales, he would ignore this field and his request would go to General Information. So we need to force people to chose the target department or identify the correct reason they are contacting for the internal rules to flow according to plan.

Vijay, where are we with this issue?  You cannot have a mandatory dropdown field that has a default value; it doesn't make sense if you expect your users to select the correct item.

We really need an update here!

Because what the others said already months ago is completely right: "Blank option has to be there." "You cannot have a mandatory dropdown field that has a default value; it doesn't make sense if you expect your users to select the correct item!!"

Tx for a quick reply!

What is going on with this?  I would like to send out a rule for when an Agent is NOT selected.

Hello,

In the customer portal new ticket form, the mandatory fields will not have a default value pre-selected so that the users are forced to choose a value before submitting the ticket. This also applies for agents when they create/update a ticket, provided the field is made mandatory for both agents & end-users.

Cheers!

Hi

The Freshdesk Widget dropdown menu shows “--” as a default option and most customers are clicking it which offers no information. Choosing an option should be mandatory. The problem does not seem to be fixed for the Widget. Please confirm how to proceed.

Thanks.
