Wanting a standard Slash key

Hello, Sorry if this is a basic question but I have searched for a solution but can't seem to find any.

I have Slash Commands enabled and like the idea of canned responces etc but sometimes I just want to hit the slash key as I am typing. For example if I want to separate choices / terms / options like this.

As soon as I hit the space then slash the canned responses box appears.

Any ideas on getting a simple slash key to appear as normal like maybe hitting an overriding key before hitting slash or something etc.

Thanks.

Hi Ray,

I'm Shankar from the Freshdesk product team. Thank you for writing to us with feedback on quick actions (slash commands).

We're working to change this experience. Soon, in the next few weeks, you'll be able to trigger canned responses only when you type /c (i.e. slash and 'c' consecutively). This way, you'll be able to type just slash when you want to, like always. The canned responses option will not interfere when you want to just type a slash after this change in experience.

For now, you can click somewhere on the reply editor to exit the menu that shows up when you type /. I know this is a very ugly workaround - but we're working on fixing this as soon as possible so that your usual workflow isn't interrupted.

Hello,

With our latest release, we've made some improvements and also an option to exit quick actions by hitting on the 'Esc' key. This will make it easier for you to type just slash when you're responding to your customers.

Cheers!

Hi

It is very annoying that when I type "Something / Something else" (fast) I get a "no results found in my canned messages. The simplest solution is if you press space after a slash it cancels that dropdown (not select the first item).

In the meantime, is there a way to turn these slash commands off? (like I can turn keyboard shortcuts off).

Tim

Tim,

I'm sorry this is very inconvenient for you. We'll have to make an update such that the first option is not selected when slash is typed. This way, you can press space and continue to type what you were intending to type.

I'll let you know when we make this change. This is in the cards.

Shankar

Hi Shankar,

Same feedback from me on this, it's pretty annoying.

Having to stop and press esc while typing quickly always breaks my focus.

The worst case of this is if you type / and then a space and then notice the popup so you press esc, then type a space again, the popup shows again lol. you then have to press esc a 2nd time to continue typing.

Any chance you can make it detect the space after it to close the popup? or offer a way to switch off this feature like the other keyboard shortcuts?

I personally don't use the popup anyway so i'd love to just fully disable it for my account ;)

Andrew,

You said: "Any chance you can make it detect the space after it to close the popup?". Yes, we're doing this.

This change has been picked up by development, and should be out in the next six weeks.

Shankar

Thanks Shankar, that'll help tones!

I agree 100%. I find the slash shortcut gets in my way frequently.

Having a way to turn it off would be greatly appreciated.

Since slash is used for LOTS of things I would suggest an alternate keyboard shortcut, or perhaps only activating it when you hit a double-slash //

@Andrew@Eric We've rolled out a fix today that will automatically close the Quick actions popup when you hit 'space'. Hope this helps :)

Cheers!

@Aravind you're awesome! Thanks it works perfectly now :)

I totally agree with everyone above about the / and space. But the way you just implemented this has completely broken my workflow for /c and /s. Now I can't just type "/c" and start searching. I have to type /c, press enter to go into the search, then type out the search, use arrow navigation, then hit enter again. The time savings from using this command rather than using the mouse is gone. It's not any quicker to use these functions instead of just clicking on the canned response button.

INCREDIBLY frustrating. This has been working like this for nearly a year, and now all the sudden it's changed.

Even this response suggests that the current implementation is not what you intended to do.
