WYSIWYG HTML editor update

Hi guys,

I have many troubles with formatting text using the WYSIWYG html editor when I'm writing articles for the knowledge base.

For example there is no spacing for paragraphs, headings and a lot of inline css and too many divs that mess a lot with the frontend.

I noticed that you're using Redactor editor (http://imperavi.com/redactor/) which seems to work pretty well on their demo - very clean markup, cleaner interface etc.

I think you can easily boost the user experience and performance by just updating this plugin.

Let me know what do you think.

Cheers,

George

Any news about this - no one bother by the current version of the editor?

Hi George,

My apologies for the late reply.I will pass on your feed back to the team.

Thank you for taking the time to post on our forums.

This problem also exists big time when editing email notifications. I've had to start using Chrome's HTML inspector to manually edit the HTML in the rich text editor in order to get the notifications to show up as expected. If you guys would provide the ability to view and edit the raw HTML, it would be a big improvement. Then we could use our own HTML editor (or just manually write the HTML) and know for certain that it will be saved the way we want it. The current rich text editor is horrible at inserting extra HTML tags in unwanted places and causes the email notifications to be displayed incorrectly when viewed in email clients. We just recently created our account and even the default email notifications are full of spacing issues and mistakes (missing line breaks, too many line breaks, extra spaces, etc).

Even the email notifications Freshdesk sends out from it's own instance are horribly formatted. Take a look at the screenshot I've attached. Notice the huge line breaks throughout and the different font sizes on the second line. My email client is Mail.app on a Mac (latest OS X) but that isn't the problem as I can view the raw source of the message and see that the HTML is an absolute mess.

Didn't mean to turn this forum post into an "email notification" rant, but it seems that the problem with the email notifications is caused by the same issue that started this post, namely the terrible HTML formatting created by the rich text editor.

We are looking into this right away. Give us about 3-4 weeks to fix this.

Since you guys are using the Redactor HTML editor plugin, can you just turn on it's built-in "view HTML" feature so that we can easily edit the raw HTML for our email notifications and KB articles?

Good to hear that you're tackling into this issue! I hope you can succeed to update to the latest version and give us a great tool to write articles.

Is there anyway to get the editor to stop trying to fix my html? I cannot add link or iframe with "&" to a solutions page because the editor keeps escaping the character in the URL regardless of my input. I would love to just disable the editor or stop reformatting my html.

I'm experiencing the same issues with line breaks and bad formatting, any news on this?

Any update on this? It's frustrating to say the least. Maybe not so much if we were creating KB content from scratch in FD, but we're copying content into FD from another source. It starts out as clean HTML and is ruined by this added code. It's taking forever to clean up these KB's, as long as it took to write some of them.

I have been testing Freshdesk during the last 4 days and I love most of its features. However, I have been facing a lot of issues when trying to migrate my solution articles to Freshdesk due to the WYSIWYG editor. Its very frustrating the way the editor keeps adding unwanted HTML tags. This is a crucial feature that deserves full attention from Freshdesk's dev theme. Please fix the editor or give us a way to disable it.

A big up from us - an updated TinyMCE editor would do so much good for our writing experience.

When is this going to happen? Please fix this horrible WYSIWIG editor. A button to allow HTML-editing would be great already!

Folks. We are working on replacing our current editor with a new one. I don't have a timeline as yet but it is looking very positive right now. This requires extremely intense testing and we will be very careful about releasing this out to all customers. I'll let you guys know if we do a beta with the new editor.

Keep us posted with the Beta program as we're having tough times in writing the documentation for our products. We're considering a switch only because this reason.

I am pulling my hair out trying to get decent formatting on solution articles within my mobile app.  We really need a new editor.  This will be the reason I move to another product, if not resolved soon.

I also am having a terrible time building the knowledge base using html already written.

Any update?

Guys, i'm being pressured into dropping FreshDesk if we can't get basic HTML to write solutions

Can we have an updated timeline? Just throw in fsckedit or tinymce.

I am also waiting on this before migrating all of our KB content from another system to Freshdesk. I'm losing patience and once again looking at alternatives. More than anything, it concerns me that something that seems so trivial is not resolved after one year. What happens when it's a complex bug, and we've already committed to migrating customers to Freshdesk? Granted, I don't know much about the real challenge in fixing this, but at least communicate to your customers.

Any news on this freshdesk??

Hey guys!

It's been over 2 years and nothing. You have a version from 2012 which is almost 4 years old — with such an old code base I'm sure that you're exposed to security vulnerabilities too. I'm not telling you to keep up with their updates, but at least, provide us with a decent editor, that we could actually use.

Fun fact: we currently use the WordPress editor to write our Knowledge Base articles and just paste the HTML code into the Freshdesk system when we're done — that's not something that we should actually do within a premium service like yours.

Kindly looking forward to this update as I'm keen to switch to another platform otherwise.

Thanks,

— George
