I want to test some API scripts to manipulate our asset list but I would like to do it in a sandbox first to test. Can I API connect to a FS sandbox or do I have to do it in production?

Yes, You may do tests in Sandbox and then copy the same to production. If you’re making changes in the Workflow section you would be able to successfully integrate the APIs. But if you’re embedding API calls in the Portal Customization part, You may or may not face issues like “Scripting is disabled”, You can always reach out to Support to help you out with the same.😀

Yes as Ammar say. Just change the URL to the sandbox, check the API key.
