We’d like to utilize FreshService for software asset management to keep things simple, but there’s a key component which I’m not finding, which is the ability to automatically assign users to software licenses based on whatever rule.  For example, it would be easy to manage this via Groups in Azure AD.  A job could run on a schedule to list all members of the group and assign them to the software license in FreshService, but that’s just one idea.  Really I’m asking if this is at all possible today?

To assign users to AD and Azure AD groups is possible...

Dependant on your business rules you should be able to auto assign the license to the users via AD.

there is workflows for this to add users to software groups.

Hi @SteelFrost

Good day!

To automatically assign licenses for users in your Azure AD, you may utilize the Orchestration feature available in Freshservice. Installing and configuring the Azure AD app under orchestration allows you to pull in the app's actions in the workflow automator to automate these specific repetitive actions.

Here’s an article that could help you in understanding the app’s features and its installation:

Hope this helps!
