Hi all,
currently I am struggling with ‘Location’ data for assets. I can enter all locations in Freshservice>Asset Management>Locations.
All data is stored like location name, address line 1, city, zipcode etc etc.
The Location name is something abstract (NL-xxxxxx) This is because out customer recognize these codes.
But the agents do not know if that name is the right address. How can the see the complete address information? Where can they find this.
Only an administrator can add/change/delete/edit locations?
I really need this data to be presented to the agents. Please …. HELP!
Hi Eric
I see your Dilemma here…
i think the location name is designed to be the friendly name for the agents, so putting a code as the location friendly name i think is your issue..
If you rename your location names to be something more suitable that will solve your problem...(but create another one). Example, if it is the location of different countries then something like England would work or England-London, England-Manchester to help define different areas.
Now as i said that would create another problem in that you need those codes visible, and you are taking them away. i would then add another field using the Asset type & Fields option, (as there is no way to edit the location fields). in there i believe you cannot add to the default asset type fields (that would be handy FreshService!) so you will need to add to the hardware tab or the services tab or both depending on your requirements.
Maybe a text box with the title as location code? something like this,

you can then see those codes in your asset view and you can configure to make a default field etc again depending on your requirements…
What do you think? does that help?
Hello afautley,
thank you for thinking with me. I also thought about that but the problem is that these addresses are hard to catch in one line.
Country is not an issue so that is needed as an identifier.
City is a possibility. But there are more stores per city.
Street address is most of the times to long and does not fit.
Store name then. Nope, there are several stores with the same name in the same city.
It is so difficult to get a name that is easy to understand for the agents.
We already created a script for filling in the complete address in the ticket notes field. But that is only after entering/updating a ticket when they already now the code for the location.
I do not understand that locations are so hard to edit, only admins can add/edit, or to get the info represented.
Can you shorten the city code and then have the first name of address?
Liv - barns st
Man - Harley rd
Lon - gargoyle ave
We are working on such a solution. I am sitting with an agent to see how it is understandable for them and shows only one location when typing…
I really appreciate your help!!! Thank you.
Nope, did not work. Now the original NL-xxxxxxx code is not visible in the portal for our customer and it does not do the trick to get the entire address in the note field.
So back to base.
I resolved it myself by creating an API request and add the location information as a private note.
And...it works.

Could you explain how to do it for me? I am not an API guru.
Hi Josh,
This is not a simple workflow. Ik consists of several flows in one.
Most important thing is to have a GET statement so you can read the ID of the location record.
After that you have te parse this data and then have a PUT statement to write the information about the location in a ticket or email or so.
As I said it is a very long en extendd workflow. I am sorry but it is not possible to write it all down here,
