Trying to make a new contact

I'm trying to create a contact for a user (employee), but every time I try, it says that their email is already being used by another contact. When I click to see which contact it is, none appear. I've already searched using filters for deleted contacts, deactivated contacts, etc., and neither that contact nor any other contact with that email exists. Could you guys help me?
