It feels like the relationship between assets and workspaces is only part implemented - with IT still treated as the favourite child.

  • Assets can only be managed by IT Workspace users, but assets can be assigned to ALL workspaces - Why does IT have control over other departments assets?
  • When assets are created and assigned to a business workspace - they still appear in the picklist on IT tickets assignments - why?
  • Business Agents can’t create or even SEE assets created into their workspace - Why?
  • Business Agents cannot associate an asset to a case (either on creation or edit), but there is an 'Assets' tab when viewing the ticket (with no link to add an asset) - why?
  • IT agents CAN associate assets to tickets in the Business workspace - and they then appear for the Business Agent, but with no functionality - Why?

I get that assets started life as a CI management system, with lots of toys for IT Teams, but other functions in an organisation have a valid use for Assets - Facilities being the obvious example.

Use Case:

I’m a building manager - I have all kinds of assets like AC units, washbasins, water softeners, toilet-roll holders, electrical distribution panels… even furniture.  A lot of places have asset stickers on every door and cupboard.

I want to associate tickets with an asset, I want my users to do the same, and I don’t want my ticketing system to make me wade through all the IT department stuff like switches and PCs.   I definitely don’t trust the IT department to manage my asset list for me. - those nerds don’t know which end of a spanner is the right one…

Freshservice is trying to turn itself from an IT helpdesk into a general business tool, but IT still gets treated like it owns the place.

Hi there,
We understand the concern regarding the visibility and availability of assets across workspaces. We will have this feedback looked into and you can feel free to reach out to support@freshservice.com for any other concerns/queries.

Totally agree—asset management still feels too IT-focused. If assets are in a business workspace, business agents should be able to see, manage, and link them without IT involvement.

Departments like Facilities have real asset tracking needs too, and Freshservice should support that with proper permissions and visibility.
